Noordhorn, the Netherlands - November 2005 Hycail® B.V. , manufacturer of PLA polymers and resins made from renewable resources, announced today that the Company’s polymer has been successfully adopted by Eosta to manufacture punnets and trays for their entire range. Eosta was founded on the principle that economy and ecology are indissolubly connected, introducing a more sustainable business approach. The selection of Hycail® polymers as one of the pillars of their packaging range was a logical choice.
Hycail’s Commercial Director, Marcel Dartée, stated. `This is a key accomplishment for Hycail and it’s partners. Eosta is a highly visible landmark in adopting sustainable business approaches and can be a great example for many other companies.` Eosta chose for Hycail® PLA polymers because the performance and philosophy behind Hycail polymers support Eosta´s founding principles. The fundament lies in the product performance. The trays have their full functionality, have an unprecedented clarity and yet are derived from argricultural products. `Think of it ´ says Arjan Klapwijk, Packaging specialist at Eosta, `Our punnets and trays to pack our organic produce were sugar beats only months ago. In collaboration with Natura Packaging we have developed a full packaging range based on natural agricultural products. We have received fantastic feedback from our customers.`
Although the trays and punnets look identical to traditional plastic food packaging, Hycail uses sugar beats, an annually renewable resource, as a raw material instead of relying on petroleum. As such, the production of Hycail polymers contributes to a more sustainable business approach. Hycail´s polymers and resin are biodegradable and compostable.
